iBreve develops self-care solutions that focus on prevention and promotes healthy living. iBreve Ltd was founded by two former Google employees. Their aim is to create a world free of stress related diseases. iBreve’s new patent-pending wearable technology analyzes respiratory patterns in real-time. This enables market applications for stress reduction, remote monitoring and chronic disease management.
The co-founders, Flavia and Jacob, started iBreve Ltd in 2018. They were inspired by their trip around the world, and especially their time spent in India, where they were fascinated by the integration of breathing techniques into daily habits. This sparked their inspiration to bring this knowledge to the western world. Medical and scientific validation brought them to work with renowned hospitals in Europe and the US. Google equipped the founders with the skills they needed to start and lead a technology business. It also taught them how to reach customers across borders through online marketing and sales and by tapping into a unique network. Using this experience, they began iBreve’s mission to make improving well-being easy.
What is the iBreve wearable and what does it do?
The iBreve wearable is specially designed for women. It is designed to be attached to a bra in a non-intrusive, subtle way. The device tracks and analyses your breathing patterns and sends the information to your smartphone via Bluetooth. This gives you insightful knowledge into your breathing, stress levels, and daily activity. It then advises you on how to reduce your stress levels and make you calmer using breathing techniques. iBreve works with both iPhone and Android, making it accessible to all users. iBreve is set to become available in the coming months and you can pre-order yours on their website.
Building a prototype
The product is mostly focused on monitoring and giving insights into breathing patterns, but it also measures the activity and calories of its users. By analysing breathing patterns iBreve provides feedback to its users before their stress levels start to rise. The iBreve team believes that a deep breath or a micro-mediation at the right moment can instantly reduce your stress level and make you feel calmer.
Once they had the idea of creating a tool to help others, Jacob and Flavia started the process of developing a scientific prototype straight away. They went to different universities to help with the research and bought the hardware they needed to turn their idea into reality. Within two weeks, the business partners had made their first prototype to help measure breathing.
When starting a company, you take on a lot more responsibilities than when you are an employee. For example, as an entrepreneur, you take care of product development, funding, finances, and HR. Whereas when you work in a big, established company, you may never deal with those aspects of the business at the same time.
Today, iBreve has won several innovation challenges, received funding for its dedication to sustainability, and has been featured in large newspapers around the world, including the Guardian and Forbes magazine.
